Removal of wisdom teeth

The third molar usually appears between the ages 16 and 24. Wisdom teeth are removed to correct an actual problem or to prevent problems that may appear in the future. Wisdom teeth are extracted for two general reasons: When they affect other teeth or due to impaction. Potential problems caused by the presence of impacted wisdom teeth include infections caused by food particles easily trapped in the jaw area behind the wisdom teeth. Removal of wisdom teeth

takes place under local anesthesia. If desired, we can prescribe a sedative tablet.

The surgery

The surgical procedure usually doesn’t last longer than 10-20 minutes. Some additional time is allotted as we need to await the effect of the anesthesia as well as to prepare the procedure and give you postsurgical information.

Postoperative pain, soreness, and swelling after treatment is usually light to moderate. It is important that you stay calm on the day of the surgery.
